One of the first questions a couple usually asks when they start planning an engagement photography session is, “Where should we go?” After all, there is no shortage of gorgeous places and landmarks in the Bay area. However, my answer is always the same – let’s go somewhere that is meaningful to you. For Marianne and Mark, that meant a trendy local café in the Dogpatch neighborhood.
The New York Times called Dogpatch “a hub for the creative,” and Marianne and Mark love the vibe of the trendy, up-and-coming neighborhood they call home. Marianne, a San Francisco native, met Seattle-bred Mark while they were both college students in San Francisco. The couple fell in love with the feel of the Dogpatch area – home to the Giants and future home of the Warriors – and we decided to photograph them at one of their favorite spots, Cafe Réveille. The bright and cozy café was a perfect setting for the couple. Marianne and Mark smiled and laughed over cups of coffee, and the photos perfectly illustrate their authenticity and warmth.
After leaving Cafe Réveille, we took a few shots of the pair on Mark’s trusty single-speed bicycle. Mark loves commuting via bike – logically, because he’s worked in Brooklyn and San Francisco! – and we had to capture his passion. Marianne then swapped her white lace dress for a deep purple cocktail dress and heels, and we moved the shoot to Potrero Hill. The sun sank, and the bright lights of the San Francisco skyline became the most gorgeous backdrop for their final photographs. Marianne and Mark are about to embark on a wonderful new journey together as a married couple. Their engagement photographs commemorate this specific, special time in their lives, in their most meaningful places.
