Kathy and Patrick have an insatiable wanderlust, but it wasn’t always that way. When the pair first met, only Patrick had been bitten by the travel bug. He was an experienced tourist, while Kathy was hesitant about the idea of leaving her comfort zone. When Patrick finally convinced Kathy to join him for a trip to Spain, the travel bug finally got her too. By the time they got engaged, they had traveled to 14 countries over their 7.5 years together.
If you’ve ever planned a wedding, you know the added logistical struggle that come with planning a destination wedding. When Kathy and Patrick planned their November nuptials, they decided to instead bring their favorite destinations to them. They tied the knot in San Francisco, but paid tribute to their passion for exploration with a “vintage travel” theme.
Kathy and her bridesmaids got ready in a spacious, sunny room at the Omni Hotel in the heart of downtown San Francisco. Kathy chose a warm color palette of peach, blush, and ivory, which was perfect for the fall celebration. She chose a romantic lace strapless gown, while her bridesmaids wore floor length lace champagne dresses.
In another room, Patrick and his groomsmen were all about the accessories. Sports-loving Patrick wore San Francisco Giants socks, while his groomsmen donned socks for the rest of his favorite Bay Area local teams: the Warriors, Sharks, and 49ers. He completed his look with a brand new Rolex from his bride. Before leaving the Omni, the blissful couple posed for a few portraits under the breathtaking chandeliers located in the lobby of the Omni hotel.
The ceremony was held in the extraordinary St. Patrick Church. Built in 1851, this historical church is what wedding (and photographer!) dreams are made of. St. Patrick’s high ceilings, Gothic Revival architecture, marble accents, and stained glass windows created the perfect setting for a ceremony that was traditional yet breathtakingly glamorous. Kathy added a few accessories for the grand ceremony, completing her look with a lace overlay and floor-length veil. After the vows, the newlyweds and wedding party posed for some photographs in the extraordinary chapel.
From the church the party moved to the Bently Reserve, a stunning venue built during the Roaring 20’s. Originally the San Francisco Federal Reserve, this event space features 25-foot tall columns around the room, hand painted walls, Italian marble floors, and two large and exquisite chandeliers. The newlyweds got a few photographs in the venue before the guests arrived, and danced in the warm, golden light of the banking hall. The versatility of the space allowed Kathy and Patrick to make it their own, and they truly did.
Two banquet tables sat in the center of the space, surrounded by circular tables. To find their seats, guests consulted a framed vintage map – each table corresponded to one of the couple’s favorite travel destinations! Instead of table numbers, Kathy and Patrick used airport codes. The tables were decorated with floral arrangements, candles, and vintage globes. On each plate sat a miniature paper suitcase containing the wedding favors: an airplane bottle opener. Underneath the suitcases were postcards from the newlyweds, thanking guests for their support and expressing their excitement for the future.
Kathy and Patrick took in the night at an extravagant sweetheart table worthy of royalty. They sat in ornate golden chairs, and their table was filled with hundreds of cascading flowers. After the meal, the couple shared a romantic first dance to a live cover of “At Last” by Etta James and celebrated with their guests late into the night. Kathy and Patrick’s wedding was delightfully authentic from start to finish, and their shared passion for travel, for their families, and for each other was a sight to behold.
